Trans-Canada Highway Mudslide Near Hope, British Columbia

A mudslide hit the Trans-Canada Highway near the Herring Island Road exit. The mudslide also tore down several houses. The mudslide engulfed a section of highway between Hope and Chilliwack, and unconfirmed reports say that a vehicle and several train cars were buried.

According to CN, there was no train derailment, though the tracks are buried.

The RCMP has described the mudslide as "extensive", and is using a helicopter to assess the damage cause by the 120' by 120' slide.
