This seems like a timely piece.

Today I got my Hydro bill. The regular monthly payment has been cut by $10. The previous amount was set by the consumption of the previous owner. I have not replaced any of the major electrical appliances and I heat the house and the hot water with gas.

So how have I done it?

I am sorry but fluorescent lights bother my eyes, and I find them too irritating. I have one incandescent light on. I turn off the outside lights, etc. So I think I am doing well.

Also, my light bulb provides heat, so it decreases my heating bill. This tip doesn't fly with me.

Also as stated in your title, the bill is cut 22%. It must be cheap place to live if the power bill is $45/month. If that is a summer rate, the days are longer and you wouldn't be using lights much anyway. The title may be deceptive.

There are many different energy saving lights out there and I am sure you will find one that will suit you. Heat by a light bulb is rather inefficient and expensive way of keeping warm. There are some great fact manuals out there in Canada, that can help clear up some of all this. It can get frustrating at times and complicated even for a Chemist or Engineer and why there are for some years now those fact books out to help consumers make the right choices and wise choices.
