Finding Victims after 8.9 Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan via Web and Telephone

Friends and family of those caught in the devastating earthquake that struck Japan, and the resulting tsunami, are trying to get hold of loved ones. Google launched a person-finder web app for those looking for possible Japan earthquake victims, or for those trying to let their loved ones know they're okay.

As of this writing, over 7200 records have been entered into the Google person-finder.

If you're looking for friends and family, remember to check email, Facebook, SMS, and even Twitter: obvious as it may sound, it's sometimes easier to send data than get a voice call out during a disaster, especially when communications infrastructure gets damaged.
