It was stated that this find will make Israel totally gas  independent and will help in the environmental efforts in Israel to be free of oil driven cars.

Three massive gas reservoirs have been discovered 80 kilometers off the Haifa coast, at the Tamar prospect, Noble Energy Inc. announced on Sunday.

The Tamar-1 well, located in approximately 5,500 feet of water, was drilled to a total depth of 16,076 feet. The thickness and quality of the reservoirs found were greater than anticipated at the location.

Charles D. Davidson, Noble Energy's chairman, president and CEO, said in an announcement that his company was "extremely excited by the results. This is one of the most significant prospects that we have ever tested and appears to be the largest discovery in the company's history."

Speaking on Army Radio Sunday morning, an exhilarated Yitzhak Tshuva, owner of the Delek Group Ltd, one of the owners of the well, called the discovery "one of the biggest in the world," promising that the find would present a historic land mark in the economic independence of Israel.

Now Hamas will claim it.

Are you telling us that this is why the war started and was so extreme, it was to control Gas reserves that could belong to the Palestinian?

Well, it would not surprise me in the least.

Com-on Paschen,

. A conspiracy?  Read the text. It was found off the northern port city of Haifa. It is not even near Gaza.   Nice try. This time you pressed the comment button a bit too fast. LOL

Ask a geologist, I did. And yes I did read the post as well as the article and two more articles to that regard as well.

If, you look at the map and know a little about geology then part of that Gas could very well belong to Gaza. Up to 40% of it.

God bless you Paschen. You got to look at the map. It is so far north from Gaza it is a joke. Besides it is also out to sea. I in no way mean to belittle your knowledge but the distance is beyond possibility.

I mean the Geological map tikun not the Geographical one. :) Big difference!!

There are also plans to drill off the coast of Egypt for oil and gas in the Mediterranean.

Maps show several places (with at least three off Israel coast). Only off the Gaza coast does it show a huge cone extending hundreds of miles (which might conflict with Egypt's claims), though I doubt it extends to the north of their border. (yeah, I googled for it, paschen)

Hamas, the Palis would love to claim it all, maybe that's why they want to wipe out Israel.

Noble Energy made the announcement

From War and Natural Gas: The Israeli Invasion and Gaza's Offshore Gas Fields :

British Gas (BG Group) and its partner, the Athens based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) owned by Lebanon's Sabbagh and Koury families, were granted oil and gas exploration rights in a 25 year agreement signed in November 1999 with the Palestinian Authority.

The rights to the offshore gas field are respectively British Gas (60 percent); Consolidated Contractors (CCC) (30 percent); and the Investment Fund of the Palestinian Authority (10 percent). (Haaretz, October 21,  2007).

The PA-BG-CCC agreement includes field development and the construction of a gas pipeline.(Middle East Economic Digest, Jan 5, 2001).

The BG licence covers the entire Gazan offshore marine area, which is contiguous to several Israeli offshore gas facilities. (See Map below). It should be noted that 60 percent of the gas reserves along the Gaza-Israel coastline belong to Palestine.

This does NOT refute the find off of the Haifa coast and has nothing to do with the fields near Gaza. T

Actually the map on the article K.H. referenced shows that cone I mentioned and it does look like it intrudes on Egyptian coastal areas.

According to Wikipedia in the eleventh century muslim and jewish people defended the city of Haifa together against the invading crusaders. It is a strange world in which we live, perhaps the people of this region should work together and use the money to help bring peace to the area instead of it falling into the hands of big business scum

"big business" and "money" are not the evil. It is people and their lost ways that make for difficult situations. Hopefully, being free of the need to rely on the exploiters of natural resources abundance shared can deliver an enlightened possibility of peace.

Who was the geologist you asked?  Does the geologist participate in this project.  No geologist would remark on a geological structure someone else on the ground is working.  It is a creed..

Some financial security would do a whole lot of peoples good.

I agree it can't hurt. In fact, Israel can be very generous when not under threat. We love to help others. Our record in Africa and some parts of Asia are a testimony. I think it is in our genes. LOL
