NP Rank:
Hurricane Andres Downgraded to a Tropical Storm Again
Update:
Hurricane Andres has now been downgraded to a tropical storm again, but about six inches of rain is still expected to fall on Mexico.
Previous story:
Hurrican Andres forms in the Pacific as a Class 1 Hurricane and is no longer considered a tropical storm.
Mexico has been on hurricane watch since yesterday after a cyclone formed in the Pacific.
RECONNAISSANCE DATA INDICATE ANDRES IS A HURRICANE... A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTHWESTERN COAST OF MEXICO FROM PUNTO SAN TELMO TO CABO CORRIENTES. A HURRICANE WARNING MEANS THAT HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE WARNING AREA WITHIN 24 HOURS.
A Class 1 Hurricane means that the wind speed is measured between 74 and 95 miles per hour.
Tropical Storm Andres did touch down in Mexico earlier today, flooding homes and knocking down trees, and one person has confirmed to have died from the storm.
The Hurricane warning was issued for south of Manzanillo to Puerto Vallarta, a popular Mexico resort town, and the rain has been coming down hard in areas like Acapulco, where about 200 people had to be evacuated from their homes on Monday.
The death was a fisherman who drowned in the choppy waters in Tecpan de Galeana.
All schools have been closed in Acapulco as well due to heavy rains and flooding. Shelters have also been opened in Manzanillo for people who have been evacuated.
At 11am PDT, the storm was about 55 miles south / southeast of Manzanillo, but it is moving closer to the Mexico coastline all the time.
