Hurricane Carlos was downgraded to a category 2 tropical storm as it moves West into the waters of the Pacific Ocean. However, the National Hurricane Centre in Miami claims Carlos could regain strength in the next 48 hours, saying it is a bit of a mystery why the hurricane has weakened so suddenly.  Hurricane Carlos was labeled Category 1 hurricane yesterday, July 11.

The tropical storm has maximum sustained winds near 70 mph, down from around 80 mph earlier Sunday.
As of 11 a.m. EDT, the hurricane was centered about 1,135 miles southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.
