Felicia Strengthens Into Hurricane in Pacific

Hurricane Felicia has now grown to a category 4 hurricane with winds at about 140 mph, and it is continuing to move towards the Central Pacific.

It is nearing its peak strength, but is expected to weaken to a tropical storm before it reaches Hawaii next week. Tropical force winds extend 140 mph out, while hurricane force winds extend 40 mph from the centre.

The hurricane is about 1,400 miles southeast of Hilo and moving northwest at 12 mph. Felicia is expected to continue on this track for the next couple of days, forecasters said.

The Hurricane Center is also tracking Tropical Storm Enrique.
