An Earthquake Hit Indonesia on September 6, 2011 near the city of Medan in Northern Sumatra.

A 6.6 earthquake occurred in Indonesia in the early hours of Tuesday, September 6, 2011.

The September 6, 2011 Northern Sumatra earthquake registered approximately 6.6 in magnitude.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Sumatra quake was centered around 62 miles southwest of the city of Medan at a depth of about 48 miles.

There were some reports of damage and injuries, including one death. No tsunami alerts have been issued.
