"Since the developed countries have already done things in a faster way, it is logical that they should be in the lead in the world`s efforts to bring about a significant reduction in carbon emissions," Yudhoyono said in his address at the opening of an informal ministerial meeting on preparations for an International Conference on Climate Change at the Bogor presidential palace here on Wednesday.

The president said the developed nations could continue their leading role by converting their social and economic systems into low-carbon communities.

"I appreciate the fact that several developed nations have done so by reducing their gas emissions without waiting for a global agreement," Yudhoyono said.
