Irish Oil Slick Caused by Russian Navy
An oil slick that was first spotted nearly two weeks ago off Ireland's southwest coast has finally been attributed to the Russian navy after they admitted to it today. The spill has been linked to an aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, that is apparently not in the best shape.
Due to mild seas keeping the slick offshore, the slick is unlikely to pose major risks to coastal habitat although it seems unlikely an oil slick is a positive thing.
Ireland estimates it has already spent more than euro250,000 ($325,000) monitoring the slick by helicopter and screening shellfish for pollution. Its transport department has asked the Russian Federation to reimburse Ireland for at least some of that expense. The Irish Coast Guard said the slick was moving slowly eastward about 45 miles (70 kilometers) south of theCounty Cork coastline, and was unlikely to reach shore before disintegrating, unless the wind strengthens and changes course unexpectedly.
"(The slick) is continuing to weather and significantly disperse ... and has not significantly moved over the last number of days," it said.
Considering the vessel in question was already known to have been plagued by technical problems since 1995, why would the Russian Navy and other responsible parties feel it was fit for the high seas?

The Russian navy is dying because a long history of authoritarianism has begun to reap the whirlwind from what has been sown in Russia over the centuries.
Russia went from authoritarian imperial rule of the Romanovs, to a brief interlude of the Kerensky government, democratically elected, followed by Lenin and his boxcar of gold from the Germans and the imposition of a police state by Lenin.
The Soviet Union collapsed, having suffered the disease of its exploitation by the Russian communist party, a group that never had to answer to anyone and who killed millions who objected.
Some argue that the elimination of the intelligentsia there permanently altered the temperment of the Russian people, ironically eliminating those who created the condition for the Russian Revolution in the first place.
I don't know, but I do know that the Russian people are drinking themselves to death, are literally dying off and their economy has little to offer other than big money in selling commodities.
So, they have no money for therir navy, a rust bucket fleet, and in a decade or so, the oil slicks will be in Russian ports and not in the open seas.

Roy,
And that's without talking about their already highly radioactive naval ports which I'm sure you know about already. Full of decommed cold-war nuclear-powered hulk subs just leaking it all out into the ports and the sea around them....!!
As for alcoholism, that's becoming a major economic problem for Russia. Terrible..

Well at least they admitted to it.
