Footage of Japan Tsunami Hitting Shore

As Miyagi Prefecture assesses the damage from the earthquake and tsunami, new video footage of the disaster continues to emerge online. The video below shows the tsunami at full height as it hits the shore.

You can see the tsunami dwarfing the cars it is about to engulf: it's the ultimate "oh, shit" moment, and it has happened in real life. That wave was responsible for thousands of deaths.

Sendai Airport Flooded: Video

Also viewable in the player below: footage of Sendai Airport as the tsunami hits. This could be the most well-documented natural disaster in history: the Japanese population is very tech-savvy, and tended to have high-quality mobile phone cams, at the very least, with them when the quake struck. The result: we can see the destructive power of the quake and tsunami from hundreds of different vantage points, which gives us at least an inkling of what it must have been like to experience such a nightmare.
