As nesting season progresses, the various adult bald eagles at Spanish Banks in English Bay (Vancouver) are busy keeping their chicks fed. In a couple of weeks they will fledge, and must be strong and fully grown to accomplish the difficult task.

Several offspring from previous years occupy the forest at Pacific Spirit Regional Park, and often come into contact on the tidal flats. These juvenile bald eagles are becoming bolder and more assertive, interacting with each other both on the ground and in the air.

Two of these juveniles had a bit of an air battle; one had caught a fish and was preparing to eat it on the sand bar when another came in to try to take it away. They flew up together, putting on quite an air show right in front of my camera!

The fish is clearly visible, hanging from one claw while the other eagle tries (unsuccessfully) to grab it in it's beak. The juvenile with the fish soon tires of the game and returns to shore to eat, leaving the other one to swoop down to the water a few times in an attempt to catch a fish of it's own.

I took this photo of a rescued bald eagle. She was shot through the beak and left eye. Her beak was reconstructed out of fiberglass and she is now cared for at the Mt. Roberts Tramway Nature Center in Juneau, Alaska.

I have more photos of this eagle and other wild ones in my flickr account. I normally don't care for birds, but these are magnificent animals. Thank you for noticing this photo and reading my entry.

This is Kenny, a juvenile bald eagle, who lives at the Illinois Raptor Center near Decatur, Ill. Kenny is 4 years old — one year from developing a completely white head. Kenny is blind in his right eye and lives at the raptor center helping educate children and adults about wild birds. More information on the center is available at: http://www.illinoisraptorcenter.org/.

I took my photographs at the Douglas Cockburn Raptor Centre at Mountsberg Conservation Area in Halton, Ontario. They have two bald eagles, as well as other raptors & owls on display. They also other educational programs and presentations.

This was taken at Indianola, a small town just north of Seattle on Miller's Bay. There were a number of crows hassling the eagle, though I'm unsure why. Just messin' with him, maybe. I saw this same eagle on and off for the 5 days I was there.

These two shots were taken in Sitka, Alaska. The close up is a bird that was very bold and landed a few feet away from me, while giving me the "stare."
