the death of a cub belonging to cat family near Mussoorie led to a sharp division in determining whether it was a from leopard family or any other small cat family.

MUSSOORIE, 12 Nov: In another bizarre incident, a leopard cub was found dead 7 kms from Mussoorie near the Youth Hostel at the Mussoorie lake.
According to eyewitnesses, the cub had been lying dead for the past 48 hours. The locals in the area were first to see the dead cub lying in the nullah on the left side of the road. However, there was some confusion whether it was a wild cat or a leopard. The locals were adamant that it was a leopard, but the forest officials denied those claims and said it was a merely a wild cat. But, after strong pressure from the locals, DFO AK Bannerjee directed his subordinates to send the animal to the WWI in Dehradun for further investigation.
The DFO said that because the deceased animal was very young, so there was some difficulty in identifying the animal. Full details would be provided after thorough observation. The locals are of the view that there is some conspiracy to kill these poor animals, as it was the second case in two days. Yesterday, too, a leopard was found dead near Dehradun.
