Lighter wine bottles using 27 percent less glass than ordinary wine bottles, will go on sale for the first time ever in Australia this July.

Banrock Station at Constellation Wines is starting the project, in the hope of reducing the impact on the environment and also encouraging more recycling.

"There is so much pressure to reduce our impact and, you know, water conservation and recycling, there are two really easy things that we can do," she says.

"All we need to do is just sort of pop it in the recycling bin for curbside collection and know that it's actually going to be recycled for other materials as well."
