The lodge pole pines are being killed by the pine beetle infestation. I can imagine what a view this must have been a few years ago with all of the trees green.

This photo was taken in White River National Forest in Colorado Sept. 2008. The amount of dead trees is asounding compared to just a couple of years ago.
