سمكة الاسد او التنين تتميز بزعانف صدرية مبهرجة و طويلة إلا أنها شرسة و سامة و تحتوي السم فيما يشبه الإبر في صف من الزعانف الظهرية يصل عددها إلى 18 و هي على الرغم من امتلاكها السم إلا أنها دفاعية تماما و تعتمد على التمويه و ردات فعلها سريعة للغاية فتتمكن من اصطياد الفريسة و غالبا ما تكون السمك أو الروبيان
سميه بالتنين لتشابه خيوط الزعانف و الالوان بالاسطورة التنين و يقال انه التنين ليس خيالي
أي لسعة من سمك التنين يمكن أن تكون مؤلمة جدا و تسبب غثيان و صعوبات في التنفس لكنها لا تقتل إلا نادرا
طولها لا يزيد عن 40 سم و طولها المتوسط هو 30 سم و هو غذاء في بعض البلدان لكن قيمته تزداد أكثر عندما يتخذ للزينة و يمكنه العيش حتى 15 سنة و يصل وزنه إلى 1.2 كجم
ينتشر سمك التنين في الشعاب المرجانية و الشقوق الصخرية في محيط العالم و له أسماء عديدة مثل :
سمك الأسد
السمك الرومي
عقرب البحر
دجاجة البحر
