Live Report: Baby Beluga Born at the Vancouver Aquarium

"Hi. It's Kate phoning from Vancouver British Columbia. I'm filing a voice report because the baby beluga has just been born at the Vancouver Aquarium. There are about 300 people here watching and 30 aquarium personnel standing around the edge of the water or reclining in wetsuits. At 4:30, the baby was born and everybody went "ooooh". Beyond that it was hard to form impressions because of the size of the crowd and the fact that we had to stay a fair distance away from the tank so as not to upset the whales. I have never seen so many marine veterinary specialists. Once the baby whale was born, about 25 of them went into the tank and formed a human chain the purpose of which, I was told, was to prevent the baby from swimming into the side of the tank and hurting itself. The baby is grey. "

I wanted to flag this story but my flagger doesn't work.  Great on-the-spot reporting Kate!
