In heavy rain, a police vehicle was involved in a serious crash this evening, at around 6.30pm, causing long tailbacks, at Bow, East London, outside the Youth Court.

The vehicle was on the second lane and appeared to be a write off.

Several police, ambulances and fire engines attended the scene.

No further details at present as to the condition of the driver(s). This information would be very reliant on the police releasing this information due to the seriousness.

No info on BBC as yet.

Beaulieu, Bow is such a crowded area that I can  imagine the traffic at the time of this accident.

I've uploaded a short 'rainy' video from the pavement: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eotZ4Qw67Xc. It was a little tricky get a better coverage. Amy could you arrange this vid to be on NP as, as usual, my PC doesn't upload it.

I did notice that ambulances were speeding whilst the weather was terrible too. I also thought, earlier in the day, that there would be a police accident because they have to 'chase vehicles' etc and in this weather, it was predictable really. Saying that I haven't seen the accident itself so it could be any number of things. I am still awaiting to find out what happened!

Beaulieu, I like this story. It's good stuff. Sounds serious.  But the police are often pretty reckless drivers (around where I live) so I'm not surprised.  But at least of them have (smart) bicycles now!

Yes, they can be. I had one nearly knock me over at night during a police 'pursuit' and I had to report it to the police and MP. Turns out that that they have to 'access the risks beforehand'. In a busy crowded area, I wonder whether this happened. In light of the seriousness of the accident imvolving the police,  there has to be 'answers'. I must have just missed it as I was cycling in their direction... was very lucky!

This is an email I received from the BBC as they didn't have any information  on their website about the police car crash:-

"Thanks for your e-mail.

I understand that you were disappointed a report was not featured in our news on a car crash in Bow.

The choice of news stories to report in our programmes is frequently very difficult. Editorial staff always have more news reports than can be fitted into the time available. Their choice has to be selective and no matter how carefully such decisions are made, they are always aware that some people may disagree with them. "

I would have thought it is of public interest if a police car crashed holding up traffic for miles.
