On Thursday 15th January, I was at home monitoring local RFS & NSWFB radio traffic around 3pm. I heard RFS Units calling for extra assistance to contain a developing bushfire off Whitegates Road Londonderry. The Local RFS along with NSWFB Station Richmond, had been attending a Shed Fire at a Londonderry property when the fire spread to adjoining bush land.
I collected my camera and drove out to the Northern Road at about 2 kalimeters short of the fires location, stopping in area off to the side of the Northern Road in a safe location away from the fire front and out of firefighters way to get some photos of the helicopter water bombing operations.
Shortly after my arrival, two RFS Contracted Bell Iroquois Helicopters arrived on scene and after landing and setting up their water buckets, begain water bombing operations. The two Iroquois Helicopters were joined by the SkyCrane aircraft about 40 minutes later, and all three helicopters continued water bombing the fire till after 7pm that evening.
