The Los Angeles area has been hit by a magnitude 4.4 earthquake.  The quake hit just past 6pm PST on Friday, May 1, 2009.  The US Geological Survey identified the earthquake's epicenter as near Westlake Village, just outside of Malibu.

No major injuries have been reported.

A magnitude-4.4 earthquake was reported Friday evening near Westlake Village.

The quake, which hit at 6:11 p.m., had a depth of 5.6. miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter (map) was located 6 miles southwest of Westlake Village, 7 miles south of Thousand Oaks and 7 miles west-northwest of Malibu.

Some residents in West Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks and Marina del Rey reported feeling the quake.

The 4.4 magnitude California earthquake caused celebrity residents of Los Angeles to jump on Twitter and start tweeting.  After all, what else would any self respecting celeb do after a quake rattles LA but jump online and spread the news?

Here’s what some of the twilebrities posted shortly after the quake occurred:

rainnwilson EARTHQUAKE! Walter and I crawled under our big kitchen table (built by Parks and Recreations Nick Offerman, interesting tidbit!) We lived!

OMG! Swarm of Locusts! It’s the apocalypse! My DirecTV is out!

Hang on! It could just be the start of another interesting weekend.

Who knew! 4.4 is pretty small so get your quake kit handy and prepare your familys!

I totally didn't feel this earthquake.

I was at my boyfriend's place in Westwood and we felt absolutely nothing... up until the power on the entire block went out from 9:00 p.m. until 4 a.m. It was awful, although I think it's pretty ironic that this should happen to me on the day I decide to do a story on a class of 10th graders who have made a pact to abstain from using media-related electronics for an entire week.

Don't recall feeling anything 60 miles east in San Bernardino.

I lived in LA (Koreatown just off Wilshire) for a while, still had many apartment buildings in shambles from 1990.  A Friend of mine actually lived in a gorgeous house that was declared  "uninhabitable"  with no gas or electricity, a shame was a vintage Spanish style Los Angeles home.  I think 4.4 is just a  blip for most Californians.....so surreal!

Sometimes I miss it, though I wasn't  there very long.
