LUSH and Sea Shepherd Launch Global Anti-Shark-Finning Campaign

Cosmetics company Lush has teamed up with Sea Shepherd, a controversial eco warrior group in a campaign to save the sharks from extinction.

Lush is handing out leaflets in their UK stores, showing videos and having their employees dress up as pirates.

The company are also giving all the proceeds of a new "shark fin" soap to the campaign to save sharks around the world.

The high street store is following in the footsteps of the Body Shop in getting involved in environmental activities.

However Sea Shepherd is a more controversial outfit who have been disowned by other environmental activists.

In contrast to Greenpeace, Sea Shepherd activists endorse a deliberate policy of sinking or sabotaging vessels they believe have violated international whaling laws.

As a result, Greenpeace has officially disavowed any connection to Sea Shepherd.

However Andrew Butler, campaigns manager at Lush, said the organisation was proud to be associated with Sea Shepherd.

100 million sharks are killed every year, and according to Sea Shepherd, 90 per cent of the shark popultion has already been wiped out.
Lush has been involved with other groups before, notably Plane Stupid and Reprieve UK.
