Oklahoma Wildfire: Luther Fire Fueled by Wind, 113F Heat
The Luther Fire, driven by high winds and a persistent heat wave, has already destroyed at least 46 homes as firefighters work to bring the blaze under control. The Luther Fire is now 80% contained.
Firefighters must work in 113F heat to battle the Luther Fire, which may have been deliberately set.
Residents of Luther, Oklahoma living south of Northeast 220th Street, north of Northeast 150th Street, east of Luther Road and west of Pottowatomie Road were told to evacuate closer to the city of Luther.
I44 between Oklahoma City and Tulsa had been closed, but is now open.
Those seeking shelter from the Luther Fire can go to Harmony Christian Church, 7100 S. Choctaw Road in Choctaw, OK, or to Slaughterville Baptist Church at 10101 60th Street in Lexington, OK.
Myers says someone in a 2008 black Ford F-150 with red lettering may have intentionally thrown a burning newspaper out of the vehicle and started the blaze
