Magnitude 5.8 quake hits Sumbawa

Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Sumbawa district, West Nusa Tenggara province, on Monday at 08:28 am local time.

The quake`s epicenter was located at 8.14 degrees southern latitude and 117.16 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 49 km of north West Sumbawa, a spokesman of the local meteorological and geophysics agency, Catur Winarti, said.

The Monday`s quake, which did not trigger a subsequent tsunami, affected Sumbawa district as well as Mataram city at the II-III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI).

Previously, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake shook Mataram city, West Nusa Tenggara on Saturday at 08.10 pm local time.(*) end
