Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Biren Nanda laid the cornerstone for the construction of Mahatma Sacred Garden in Paksebali village of Klungkung regency on Sunday.

He said he was pleased to see the enthusiasm of Balinese youngsters, who would learn the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, the great philosopher and spiritual leader of India.

"I am sure if there are many young people who learn about the teachings of Gandhi, and his spirit of nonviolence and swadesi (nationalism), we can preserve humanitarian values," he said as quoted by beritabali.com here on Sunday.

The garden will be used as a center for learning yoga.
