A scant few months ago when a Carbon Tax was announced by the British Columbia Government, much Back slapping, Banners and Party Favours were passed out to a Liberal Government by other Provinces and the World as BC once again was the Darling of the Environmental World as Progressive in their Fight in saving the Planet and fighting Global Warming.
Even opposition political parties remained Mum as they were obviously so jealous of such a "Environmental Coup"!
Now as gas approached $1.50 a litre or $6.00 a gallon, British Columbian's seem to be doing an about face about spending that $0.02 a litre Gas tax. Opposition Parties are now "Ranting Full Force" of this Governments Eco Nazi policies wanting to "Axe the Carbon Tax!"
"Hypocrisy Rules" and it's name is BC's Opposition Politicians!
As I had previously reported on this Fallacy of when it comes "Push to Shove", British Columbian's love an Idea, as long as they don't have to pay for it, or as long as it does not affect their Lifestyle. But then, what is a mere $0.02 cents here and there, we can afford it. Little did anyone realise the trickle down theory that would hit the economy.
When the Carbon Tax for British Columbian's was first announced to the media and the World, "Kisses and Accolades" abound as the media reported recent polls showed "Smug" British Columbian's all "Chicken Chested" puffed up stating to the World that, "Yes" we should all do our part as they wrapped themselves in the "Environmental Flag of Stewardship".
It seemed everyone in this "Looney Burg" interspersed their daily water cooler conversation with cliche buzzwords such as "Sustainable Development", "Greening", Carbon Footprint, Carbon Credits, Global Warming, Eco Density, etc. It seems everyone was researching the Net to find out what the hell those Buzzwords meant? As most threw them out in daily conversation like so much non recyclable plastic bags.
"Hey" Dave, did you see that Al Gore movie last night at the Greenhouse Eco-Plex?
Dave: Tsk, Tsk, Hell No!, I stayed home as I didn't want to leave my Carbon Footprint and wear out my recyclable Fair Trade Cardboard shoes. I stayed home in my Eco Density Condo with all the lights off and tried not to expend any energy. Besides, I bet the lineup was long, and all those people exhaling Carbon Dioxide can't be good for the planet?
Wow, really? how environmentally conscious you are!
Well if it makes you feel any better, I held my Farts in, cause I too am concerned about Global Warming!
Dave: You're a better man than I. How about letting me pay for lunch to celebrate, I just got my New Carbon Credit Card !
Pretty much the situation is this, Don't Accept the Accolades of others, if you're not prepared to pay for it! Something we seem to always do in this province, until push comes to PAY!

Majority oppose B.C. carbon tax Jonathan Fowlie, Vancouver SunPublished: Tuesday, June 17, 2008VICTORIA - A majority of British Columbians oppose the B.C. Liberal government's carbon tax, a new poll reveals.
Ipsos Reid has found that 59 per cent of those polled are against the new tax - set to begin July 1 with a 2.4-cent-per-litre increase in the price of gasoline - with just under half of the respondents saying they oppose it "strongly."
Opposition to the tax is greatest in the Interior, followed by the Lower Mainland and then the rest of mainland B.C.
The poll comes as gas prices approach $1.50 a litre, and just as New Democratic Party leader Carole James kicked off her "axe the tax" campaign in Kelowna Tuesday.
She argued that Premier Gordon Campbell's carbon tax places too much pressure on B.C. consumers.

I'm still not sure exactly what the carbon offset tax would do, considering the administrative cost of moving money around in any given province. The benefits of the tax are far too vague.

Actually friends of mine in the Government state, after countless steering committee meetings, they still haven't a friggin clue what is being bandied about. But at least they get a catered lunch~~

this carbon tax makes some people feel warm and fuzzy but is just silliness. more catering to special interest groups with no thought.
