Maire has weakened into a tropical storm off Mexico's Pacific coast.

The Miami-based centre says Marie has maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometres an hour.

The storm is barely moving northwest, centred 1,370 kilometres off the southern tip of Baja California.

Marie was the sixth hurricane of the eastern Pacific season.

A tropical depression off the Mexican resort city of Acapulco was forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm Sunday.

It was located about 305 kilometres south of Acapulco, and is expected to remain well off the coast as it drifts west.
