Mealy Mountains National Park: New National Park In Newfoundland
Mealy Mountains National Park is the name of Newfoundland's and Canada's new National Park - The Mealy Mountains national park will encompass a total of 11 thousand square kilometers
"Details about the new Mealy Mountains National Park, to be the single largest federal conservation zone in Eastern Canada, were unveiled by Environment Minister Jim Prentice during a press conference in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L. with Newfoundland and Labrador's Environment Minister Charlene Johnson.
"As we enter into the International Year of Biodiversity, it is fitting that we are working to establish a national park reserve to protect this spectacular boreal landscape for all time, for all Canadians," Prentice said (source: Vancouver Sun).
The government has it has plans to do more inlcuding,
Johnson said Newfoundland and Labrador will try to establish a waterway provincial park to protect the Eagle River, adjacent to the proposed national park reserve. Together, these areas will protect over 13,000 square kilometres. (source: CBC)
