Message in a bottle makes a 400 mile, 39 year journey
A mysterious message washed ashore in a beer bottle in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The message, released off the coast of New Jersey read "If found notify the North Haledon Fire Co. 2." and was dated August 17, 1969.
Mark Ciarmello and his 3-year-old daughter found the bottle along a beach in Corolla, N.C., in October. That's about 400 miles from where it was released.
While firefighters at the North Haledon Fire Station don't know who wrote the message or why, they assume it was released during one of the many fishing trips they used to take during the summer.

It reminded me of the same. These days, I would feel guilty about purposefully putting trash in the ocean, but isn't the idea romantic?!

This is an amazing story, it makes you wonder how often bottles like this are found.
