Milwaukee Gets 7.5 Inches of Rain, Mitchell Airport Closed

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is suffering from flooding after getting pounded by 7.5 inches of rain in less than three hours. General Mitchell International Airport is still closed due to flooded runways and approach roads.

Mitchell Airport will be closed until noon on July 23 at the earliest. If you are flying to or from Milwaukee, check airport information first:

Thousands of people were stuck without electricity and two people had to be hospitalized after getting struck by lightning on a day that broke Wisconsin rainfall records.

Rain collected quickly and caused flash flooding on roads, stalling cars in Milwaukee. A massive sinkhole even opened up downtown and swallowed a Cadillac Escalade.
There’s a chance for more rain today in the Milwaukee area and throughout Wisconsin. It will be muggy, with highs of up to 90 in the south. And Milwaukeeans won’t be able to cool off at Lake Michigan. The city’s beaches are closed through Sunday because of the potential for flood contamination.
