Mississippi River Floods Push Snakes & Other Wildlife into Human Neighborhoods

It isn't just the water you have to watch out for as the Mississippi River floods its banks. You have to watch out for snakes, too. Venomous snakes such as water moccasins have been displaced from their homes, and will be seeking food and shelter wherever they can. This could include your house.

It's not just headline-grabbing snakes, but deer and other wildlife that live just outside the cities and towns in flooded regions, such as opossums, raccoons, and coyotes. Flightless birds such as chickens and turkeys will also turn up in the darnedest places, if they survive: the flooding is expected to persist for weeks.
