Heavy storms hit eastern Missouri on April 22. Hailstorms, heavy rain and tornadoes caused damage throughout the area, playing havoc with travel. [Update: video footage of a St Louis Airport concourse as a tornado hits it has been added below.]

St. Louis Airport was closed as fierce storms swept through. Windows were shattered by the high winds and flying debris, and several travelers were injured by the broken glass. Cars in the parking areas were overturned, and a shuttle bus was hurled onto the roof of a parking structure, lending credence to some reports that it was a tornado that tore through St. Louis Airport. The roof of Concourse C was also damaged by the storm.

If you are flying to or from St. Louis Airport, make sure your flight is still scheduled:

Around 45,000 people in the area were left without electricity. The At. Louis Cardinals-Cincinnati Reds game was delayed for several hours.
