The chief volcanologist who has been overseeing the monitoring of Mount Kelud activity in East Java, Dr Surono, is puzzled that the volcano has until now not erupted although all the parameters for an eruption have been fulfilled.

"All the parameters for an eruption are in place but Mt Kelud has not erupted until today," Surono said at a refugee shelter at Segaran village, Wates dub district, Kediri, on Saturday.

Among the main parameters that had been met were the occurrence of uncountable tremors, a close-range volcanic earthquake which had pushed magma closer to the surface of the crater`s lake, and the temperature of the water in the lake which had reached 38 degrees Celsius.
