Murfreesboro Tennessee tornado kills 2, destroys 250 homes
In Murfreesboro Tennessee, people are trying to pick up the pieces this morning after a tornado ripped through the town yesterday; two people were killed, a mother and her baby, and 36 people have been injured. About 250 homes were destroyed by the powerful storms.
Kori Bryant was home with her daughter, Olivia, when the tornado struck, said family member Mark McClure. Another family member, who found the mother and daughter after the tornado, said attempts were made to resuscitate the infant but she couldn't be saved, according to McClure.
It was at about noon yesterday when the winds began to pick up and thunderstorms crackled across the region. It was just before 1:40pm that the tornado touched down in Murfreesboro.
Search and rescue teams are still looking in the rubble today for survivors and victims of the tornado.
Also in Mena, Arkansaas, the town is starting to clean up after a tornado ripped through there yesterday; three people were killed and over 100 homes were destroyed or severly damaged.
Residents have called the area a 'war zone'.
The county hospital was damaged, as was the City Hall, the middle school, a few churches, the library and the courthouse.
Some residents still do not have electricity or gas.
The 18 inmates at the jail were also moved to nearby jails as their institution was too badly damaged.

Friday was a dark day for murfreesboro,TN. As 5 tornados touched down all people could do was to hope and pray that they were not in the way of it. Unfortunately people lost their homes, cars, and some office buildings and stores were wiped out. Now you can hear a bunch of helicopters in the area trying to help out.

Horrifying. I am moving back to Murfreesboro from Jacksonville, this week after being away for 40 years. Really makes me feel safe! LA

Feel so sorry for all of the people affected by this twister. Glad we do not get twisters and tonados here in Scotland. So awful to think that you could be sitting with your feet up supping a nice cup of tea, then bang your house has been destroyed before you get a chance to swallow the soothing brew.

Unfortunately these pictures only show a 1/10 of the damage down to Murfreesboro. I was in apartment complex hiding in the best cover and we had to tornadoes touch down less then a mile away. It can be kinda scary at times not knowing what can happen

Hey folks, I just figured out that there are NO tornadoes or hurricanes on the moon, or any moon for that matter, simply because none of them rotate on their axis. They're all "tidally locked" to their parent planets. Just imagine tying a ball with a string to your finger and swinging it. The ball only revolves about your finger, but it never rotates on its axis. Therefore, tornadoes and hurricanes would never occur on any moon in our solar system.
The rotation of the earth is an important mechanism in atmospheric circulation.
The CORIOLIS FORCE is named after a nineteenth-century French mathematician. Another name for it is the ‘deflective force’, and this tells us what it is all about: on our rotating earth the Coriolis force will try to make things moving over its surface deviate to the right in the northern hemisphere, left in the southern hemisphere. Many of the characteristics of ocean currents and atmospheric systems are determined by the strength of the Coriolis force.
