Mutant Parakeet: Abandoned for His Unique Appearance
Whipper is a mutant parakeet, whose feathers look more like hair... he looks like a chirping Chewbacca. Whipper the mutant parakeet was abandoned, and taken in in by Julie Hayward of Winton, New Zealand.
I wonder how many animals get abandoned because they don't look like the "typical" version of themselves. I've had friends over the years who have taken in three-legged cats, deaf dogs, and bald rabbits- these critters can be just as much a part of the family as their conventionally-attractive fellows. Having said that, I think Whipper is way cuter than normal parakeets. The eye of the beholder and all that.
I wonder if Whipper has trouble seeing, and if he can fly. He is, after all, extremely shaggy.
This is just a quick human (budgie-) interest story because Amy is on holiday.

He is way cuter. He might be a valuable bird. Think of all the Rex cats that are sold these days. They came from a mutant.
