LOS ANGELES, CA -- Little 'Hearts' was not supposed to be here today because the cardboard box in which she and her siblings were stuffed was dumped by the side of the road. One of her sisters did not make it.

Luckily, 'Hearts' and her surviving family will be celebrating their very first Christmas in 2010 because actor-turned-animal rescuer Leo Grillo had better plans for them.

'Hearts' has joined more than 1,500 other previously abandoned pets that will receive their own Christmas Love Stocking from Grillo, founder and president of  D.E.L.T.A. Rescue, the largest care-for-life animal sanctuary of its type in the world.

The Christmas Love Stocking drive has become an annual celebration of life for the growing number of rescued dogs and cats at the mountaintop refuge located northeast of the City of Angels.

To become a Santa for these animals, send a tax-deductible donation to P.O. Box 9, Glendale, CA 91209.

For information on how to become a yearlong Santa, phone (661) 269-4010 or visit the not-for-profit group's Web site.
