Restingas are abrasion platforms derived from the erosion of high cliffs by sea waves in Patagonia. The plateaus in Patagonia reach the sea and are usually formed by sandstones. Once broken and fallen, sandtone accumulates at the feet of the cliffs. Continued pressure by sea waves results in the sedimentation and compactation of these materials creating the platforms.
Relatively recent restingas (laying just below the cliffs) harbours a rich amount of mollusks, sea plants and anemones. They are also inhabited by little crabs.
This photo is a detail of a restinga with algi and mollusks.
