While visiting Newport,Oregon this summer I happened up a local tourist attraction. The harbor seals down at the pier. They were numerous people gathered there on the walkway looking down at the seals that were all prone on their floating decks. For the most part the seals were laying huddled together, cramming for a spot on one of the two decks. Weighing close to 350 pounds on average it is amazing these decks don't capsize. The seals would only became upset when another seal would attempt to board the deck from the water. Then all their loud barking and rolling of their heads would commence as if on que. It was apparant the seals have had their battles as depicted by the scars seen all over them. While staring at all those motionless bodies of seals conserving all their energy I thought for a moment that maybe they were onto something.
