It's a tried and tested way of keeping homes cool in Mediterranean countries.
But many might feel the latest official advice is just a little bit over the top for Britain, where summer downpours seem more common than heatwaves.
Health chiefs advised yesterday that homes should be painted white to reflect the heat.
Carpets should also be replaced with tiles or wood, and metal blinds swapped for curtains with light linings, to keep rooms cool as temperatures rise.
The Department of Health's Heatwave Plan for England, which is designed to counter the effects of climate change, reports that painting brickwork white will cost a homeowner around £3,750.
Changing flooring comes in at a touch over £2,000, while installing ceiling fans can cost £545.
Fortunately for homeowners hit by the recession, other advice, such as 'natural ventilation' through windows, will not cost a penny.
Here I am in the tropics and my house of course is painted white and back at home in Great Britian where its raining and much coller than here on Negros, I would assume.
A bit worried to the fact that this news is related to the ice caps moving to the equator?
What a lot of wallies and I help pay their over bloated salaries. lol

Once again the comedy made me nearly choke on my coffee. Its obviously a load of whitewashed poo, that crept out of the number 10 loony bin.
The over emphasied stupid over the top propaganda that the UK government cares about the global warming. Are these people real?

No, no no, Babel-Fish ... these people ARE real - In California, there's talk of either outlawing the sale of Black painted cars, or at the very least having them slapped with an energy penalty surcharge.
These control freaks are not insane ... it is just well intentioned EVIL!
Who is anyone to tell anyone else what color their car, house, or anything else for that matter (on anything other than communal style issues where one could opt-in or leave)?

honestly, i am ok with these sorts of changes, no black cars or white houses either way..
the earth is in trouble now. There will always be the issue of the government maybe overstepping their boundaries but this is Everyone's earth and maybe i don't appreciate you polluting it. Now, sure i don't care at all but eventually we will wish we had taken more serious measures sooner instead of listening to these debates for decades

But for British it's a laugh as you are used to brown bricks - there are countrys that doesn't need paint - they got white bricks!
