Definatly, these maps are amazing. They had one for the SD fires too. I beleive that this is where search will lead eventually.

The SD fires was ground breaking in the use of Google maps (see here for the story on NowPublic). And yes, searching anchored on maps and geolocatting is the direction we are heading.

Google Maps have already been used to search for people. Some brilliant programmer gots lost on his boat a while ago and tons of other programmers went to action using Google Maps mashups to try and find him. I think they used them for Steve Fosset as well.

Thanks. I heard about the Steve Fosset search but I did not know about the programer.
Yes they are not only fun to look at but very usefull, I guess for bad as well unfortunatley, but I can only imagine how much more we will be able to do with these maps as well as things like google earth in the near future.
