Oil Spill Volunteers Website: How To Volunteer For the Gulf Oil Spill Clean Up Effort
As the oil continues to leak into the Gulf of Mexico more and more people are looking for opportunities to help and perhaps do volunteer work to help clean up the oil spill.
There is a central website that has various ways volunteers can help out. It is called Oil Spill Volunteers.
Each State has a volunteer hot line of its own.
- Volunteer Louisiana - 800.755.5175
- Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service
- Volunteer Florida
- 211 Connects Alabama - 866.869.4921
If you live outside of any above states be warned that there are more volunteers than available positions despite the seemingly slow pace of work being portrayed on TV news.
- Pascagoula River Audubon Center - "If you are interested in being trained to help wash oiled birds, please email the Center (contact us) with your Full Name and phone number. We are being inundated with phone calls for volunteer request, please use the contact link to submit your information."
- Mobile Bay National Estuary Program - If you live in Alabama: Interested volunteers are asked to provide contact information to the MBNEP office by phone at 251- 431-6409 or by email to mbnep@mobilebaynep.com.
- Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana - Collecting volunteer information for Louisiana

Fundraising is something you have a lot of power over. Find an organization and something fun you can do. get people to sponsor or donate things that you sell- and your good to go! there are tonnes of links online that can inspire you. www.takepart.com/news/2010/04/30/the-gulf-coast-oil-leak-how-to-helpwww.wikihow.com/Fundraise-for-CharityWhat sucks is that your 15- this should be basic stuff they teach you at school!! good for you for your initiative and spirit!good luck!

I'm an 20 years old and unfortunate that I cannot find a job. I live in Northwest Alabama but I really want to help the oil spill that has now hit Gulf Shores, AL. I make things such as jewelry and some clothes. I was looking at selling them and giving the proceeds to an organization to help with the spill. Is there any websites I can look at that has places where I can send the money?
