40 Tornadoes Tear Through Oklahoma & Kansas, Killing 5

Photos

Five people were killed as 40 tornadoes tore through Kansas and Oklahoma on May 10, 2010. Stores and homes in "Tornado Alley" were destroyed and highways were shut down.

Two people were killed in Oklahoma City, and three killed in Cleveland County. Around 60 injuries have been reported.

Belmont suffered the worst tornado damage in Kansas, though no injuries were reported. Thousands are still without electricity in the affected areas.

Residents of the affected areas are warned to stay off the roads to allow emergency workers to deal with the aftermath of the tornadoes, such as downed power lines, gas leaks, and debris from destroyed buildings.

The twisters had winds estimated at 150 miles per hour, spouted hail the size of baseballs and left thousands without power. Survivors took cover wherever they could.
