A developer wants to turn a prime piece of public space into a marina catering to extra big yachts. The premise is that they will bring an economic boost to Victoria but there are loud protests that it will impede safe use of public waterways and spoil the locale for residents and strollers/joggers.

Over 50 canoes and kayaks came out to show opposition among a crowd of over 100. High winds made a planned spatial demonstration impossible but also highlighted the inadequacy of a mere 8m leeway next to taxiing floatplanes.

The overconsuming ultra-rich lifestyle should not be pandered to at the expense of broader public quality of life and global sustainability. If cruise ship passengers aren't scared away from Victoria by docking out at Ogden Point then why should a much smaller number of millionaires get such special treatment? I doubt it will really bring that much more money to the city.
