Founded in 1631 by Juan Rangel de Biesma, it was once a bustling center for silver mining. After the end of the silver mining boom, Parral was almost completely abandoned in the early 1930s (although the surrounding district continues to be mined for silver and base metals). It is now a small city mainly dedicated to commerce. The Major of Hidalgo del Parral Chihuahua, Oscar Gonzalez Luna officially  announced the death of two persons and no report of missing ones, the first report of affected persons due to the overflowing of the " El Alamillo" river  will be ready tonight.

El alcalde de Hidalgo del Parral Chihuahua, Oscar González Luna señala que oficialmente hay dos muertos y no se registran personas desaparecidas y que esperan esta misma noche tener listo en primer padrón de damnificados luego de que el arroyo “El Alamillo” se saliera de su cause generando gras destrucción a su paso.

The Secretary of Education and Culture informed that classes would be suspended at least for today in Hidalgo del Parral in order to evaluate the damages caused by the flood. It was recomended not to expose the children and keep them inside their homes due to the alert from authorities that still continues because of the weather report of rain for the next days.  

Chihuahua, Chih.- La secretaria de Educación y Cultura informó que por lo menos el día de hoy quedan suspendidas las clases en Hidalgo del Parral, con el fin de evaluar los daños causados por las inundaciones.
Recomendó a los padres de familia no exponer a sus hijos y mantenerlos en el interior de los domicilios, pues el alertamiento por parte de las autoridades de seguridad aún continúa, al pronosticarse lluvias para las siguientes 24 horas.
There is a dark memory in Parral on September 8th 1944 a great flood destroyed the city and killed 31 persons.
