patgarcia, I like this story. It's good stuff.

We had similar floods in Japan and in West Africa same sort of disasters are reported.

Thanks Pashen,

My daughter has many friends at Parral and she spent the summer there. It's a small historical place. Sad to see so much damage.

Thank you for all the information. I have family and friends in and around Parral in some of the more desolate areas, where there has been mass destruction with the floodings.  Much of the news has not covered these smallers areas (and if they have very limited)  that were located right next to rivers that, in some cases, covered entire communities.

I'd like to organize family and friends here to send donations, please send me information as to the organization to contact.  Would it be the Cruz Roja Mexicana?

0
patgarcia

Thanks for asking! Yes Cruz Roja Mexicana is coordinating help along with The Fire department.

I have spent a year researching my ancestry and it all goes back to Parral. Yesterday I finally identified the first ancestor who came to Parral from Cordoba, Spain in the early 17th century. I was so excited and started to plan a trip. I decided to type "Parral" into Google just to see what's going on in the town and this is what came up! I am devastated. I will do anything I can to help and will let my whole extended family know...I'm sure they will all help too. Would it be crazy to come down there next week and offer to help in person?

I forgot to mention...there is absolutely no news coverage of this in any American media outlet that I can find! We are getting every detail about Cuba and Haiti but it's as if Mexico were on another planet! I will be notifiying my local news media today...let's see if they cover it in here in Los Angeles. There are so many Mexicans here, many from Chihuahua, who would help if they only knew.

How interesting on how you traced back your genealogy and found out about Parral just as this tragedy happened. I don't think it would be crazy to go and help but it would be easier if you had some kind of contact there.

You are absolutely right, the media didn't inform about this with the urgency it required. Now that evacuations have started it's beginning to appear on TV.
