NP Rank:
Patient information found at recycling center
Associated Press - May 18, 2009 9:45 AM ET
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Chattanooga are investigating the discovery of medical records that had been dumped at a city recycling center.
Sgt. Jerri Weary said Monday morning the investigation could be extensive because of the large number of documents.
Police were called Saturday afternoon when someone noticed the forms that police say contain medical and financial information of patients.
Police collected them and secured them because the information is believed to fall under federal law regarding patient confidentiality.
There was no immediate indication where the records came from.
