If you don't know what the Peace Boat is here are the details from Wikipedia:
The Peace Boat (ピースボート, Pīsu Bōto?) is a global organization headquartered in Japan established for the purpose of building connections internationally among groups that work for peace, human rights, environmental protection and sustainable development. Since its founding in 1983, the Shinjuku, Tokyo based organization has launched 25 international voyages of passenger ships manned by international volunteers that travel particularly to areas that are experiencing or have experienced unrest.[1] Peace Boat, described by the San Francisco Chronicle as a "floating university of sorts", offers educational opportunities aboard, with conferences related to global events.[2] They also provide humanitarian aid at their various stops and visit local organizations.[2]Peace Boat also hosts the regional secretariat of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict.

I do like the idea and would have hopped it worked.
However, It is a controversial initiative and world wide especially in Europe and including here in Japan received with more and more scepticism and seen more as a show with out contend.
It is a little like a massive cruise, not cheep either since the trip runs around $30,000.00 for each and yes, there are work shops and visits and exchanges with students and others people form the countries they visit.
I was visiting it once, just for a day and I was some what rather disappointed. It is a make you feel good initiative for people form rich countries.
I have some serious doubts it actually helps.
Then again, I could be wrong.
