Florida Governor Charlie Crist Says Oil From the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Is Expected to Hit Pensacola Fl Beaches in a Few Days

According to reports, oil has been seen just 10 miles from the shores of Florida and the oil spill and 'thousands of tar balls' are expected to reach the beaches of Pensacola in one to two days.

Pensacola Florida have launched a Gulf Oil Leak Response page on their website and about 66,000 feet of boom have been sent to Florida, Alabama and Mississippi after oil was found on the Alabama and Mississippi barrier islands. Boats are also working to skim the oil off the water before it reaches the beaches.

Governor Charlie Crist said:

"The goal is to remove that oil from near-shore waters and prevent and minimize any potential impacts on our state,".

BP is still working to stop the oil leaking in to the Gulf of Mexico over a month after the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and sank in to the ocean. When they were trying a fix on Wednesday June 2 the saw they were using became stuck in the pipe underground and they had to stop once again.

People along the coast meanwhile are bracing for the Atlantic Hurricane season set to begin soon, which would not only delay the clean-up and repair operations, but could blow oil saturated water further inland on to houses and in to communities.
