6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Peru

An earthquake measuring 6.9 in magnitude struck Peru at 1:54pm local time (11:55am PT) on October 28, 2011. The epicenter of the Peru earthquake was 32 miles from Ica, near the central coast.

The earthquake was felt in the capital city of Lima, 186 miles away. So far, there are no reports of major damage or injury.

No tsunami warning has been issued in relation to the quake.
