A change tonight, this is our friendly Pine Marten, that visits our bird table every night, for his/her peanut butter and raspberry jam sandwich, plus Custard Cream biscuits ! (cookies).
We can get to within two feet of this particular Marten, with a biscuit held high for emotional blackmail ! The bird table is right outside my kitchen window, where we can watch very closely. This shot is not razor sharp, - I had to sneak out the door and hand hold my long lens, light was quite poor also. I just wanted to share this beautiful critter with you all.
These creatures went almost to extinction in Scotland, hunted to death by the gamekeepers and crofters, because they kill birds for food. They can create mayhem in a chicken run.
Thankfully it was seen fit to protect these creatures, and now they are reasonably successful.
Personally, we get more trouble from cats that kill everything, even our Slow Worms and Lizards !
What right do we have to hunt something to extinction, when we ourselves , Human Beings, do what we do ??
