Clean Up the Philippines Movement, Inc. has become a member of the community-led global environmental campaign, Clean Up the World, joining an estimated 35 million volunteers in over 120 countries around the world who are making a difference in their local environment.

“In the Philippines, we are managing and coordinating Clean Up the Philippines campaign, a local counterpart of the Australian based international campaign Clean Up the World. The campaign will bring together businesses, community groups, schools, government and individuals around the country in a range of simple activities and programs that will positively improve their local environments” said Mr. Roald Romualdez Arcangel, Founder and Chairman of Clean Up the Philippines Movement.

“Our aim is to bring the practical message of Clean Up the World to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment in every community in our country and we hope we will have the support of as many people in the community as possible,” continued Mr. Arcangel.

The campaign’s flagship event is Clean Up the Philippines (CUP) Day which will be held this year on September 20, 2008. CUP Day is a simultaneous nationwide clean up event held in conjunction with our national clean up month and the international Clean Up the World Weekend celebration. Clean Up the Philippines is proud to be cleaning up our part of the world and we urge everyone to join and make a real difference.

Clean Up the World Chairman and Founder Ian Kiernan AO congratulated members and volunteers of Clean Up the Philippines campaign on joining Clean Up the World and on their plans to clean up their local environment.

“I wish Clean Up the Philippines a successful campaign. Congratulations for taking the first step towards making your community a cleaner, healthier place for all to enjoy. Clean Up the Philippines campaign is an excellent example of how we can all make a difference in helping solve the world’s environmental problems by taking action on a local level,” said Mr. Kiernan.

Clean Up the World originated in Sydney, Australia in 1993 and is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Groups, organizations, schools, businesses and communities around the Philippines can register as a Member of Clean Up the Philippines campaign by visiting www.cleanupthephilippines.org or e-mail info@cleanupthephilippines.org for more information.
